The Bainbridge Island Metro Parks and Recreation District makes our great parks even better in the summer with free concerts, free movies, and free Shakespeare.

Concerts

Each Wednesday through August 21, the Bainbridge Island Metro Parks and Recreation District turns up the heat at one of the Island’s parks with a summer concert, featuring a mix of world music. You can’t beat the views. Throw in a picnic basket and a lawn chair and you have yourself some classic summertime entertainment.

This Wednesday, July 17, check out Harmonious Wail at Fay Bainbridge. They play swing and gypsy jazz.

Here’s the rest of the schedule:

    • July 24: African Showboyz at Fay Bainbridge. The Ghana-based ensemble specializes in drumming, dance, and tribal music.

    • July 31: Hawaiian Luau at Fay Bainbridge. Kani Kapahu O Lohiau teaches hula and Fire Nation supplies the tunes.

    • August 7: Massy Ferguson at Battle Point Park. A Bainbridge-Island favorite, Seattle’s southern rock band mixes in some Springsteen for a down-home summer evening.

    • August 14: Tiller’s Folly at Battle Point Park. This Canadian Celtic group gets deep and soulful, yearning for the old country.

  • August 21: Grupo Meridional at Battle Point Park. The Island-based band led by Alan Simcoe specializes in Latin-Cuban dance music.

The concerts run from 7 to 8:30 each Wednesday. They’re free and appropriate for all ages.

Movies

Island movie expert T.J. Faddis emcees the movies, which start at dusk at Waterfront Park. Seating opens at 8:30, so grab your lawn spot early for best viewing. Concessions are for sale.

Here’s the schedule:

  • August 9: Sleepless in Seattle
  • August 16: Ferris Bueller’s Day off
  • August 23: Babe

Shakespeare

GreenStage returns to the rock for the second annual Shakespeare in the Park event, this time with the appropriate-for-the-season A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Catch the Elizabethan mayhem August 4 at 3 p.m. at Battle Point Park.
